FAQ

Questions people ask before getting a quote

Straight answers, same as everywhere else on this site. If yours isn't here, ask it directly — that's what the contact form is for.

How much does a website cost?

It depends on pages and features, but here's the shape of it: a one-page site starts at £400–700, and a fuller site with room to grow starts at £1,500–2,200. Add-ons like booking or online payments start from a few hundred pounds on top of either. The full breakdown, tier by tier, is on the Services page.

Do you charge VAT?

No. Brunel Web isn't VAT registered, so the price you're quoted is what you pay — nothing added at the end.

How does payment work?

Half up front once we've agreed the scope and price in writing, and the other half when the site's built and ready to launch. The balance is due within 7 days of that invoice.

What if I need to cancel or change my mind partway through?

If you cancel before any work has started, your deposit is refunded in full. Once it's underway, you pay for the work already done, plus a small fee to cover the lost slot in the schedule — the exact terms are in the contract before you sign, not a surprise afterwards.

Who owns the website once it's finished?

You do. Once it's paid for, the design and code built specifically for your project are yours outright — see "Yours to keep" on the home page. The one exception is any general-purpose tool or code library I reuse across projects, which you get a permanent licence to keep using as part of your site, rather than owning the tool itself.

What happens if something breaks after the site goes live?

Genuine defects — anything that doesn't match what we agreed, or that breaks through no fault of yours — are fixed free within 30 days of handover. After that, it's covered by a Care plan if you're on one, or billed at the day rate like any other change.

Can I edit the site myself?

Only if you add self-editing — otherwise it's a fixed, professionally built site and any change goes through me. Add self-editing to any tier and you can change text and pictures yourself, no code required.

Do you offer support after launch?

Yes — optional monthly Care plans from £25/month cover updates, backups and uptime checks, with higher tiers adding small changes and hosting. If you'd rather not commit to a plan, one-off work afterwards is billed by the day. Full details are on the Services page.

I already have a website — do I need to start over, or can you just add something to it?

Depends what it's built on. If it's something I can safely extend, I often can just add the feature. If it's an old platform or a tangle of plugins, it's usually cheaper and more reliable to rebuild than to keep patching it. Tell me what you've got and I'll give you a straight answer, not a default one.

How long does a project take?

It depends on scope, so I won't quote a number here that might not fit yours. You'll have a real answer, specific to your project, by our second conversation — a completion estimate alongside the fixed price, before any work starts.

Do you build online shops?

Yes — full e-commerce, with a basket, checkout and stock tracking, is available as an add-on, or as part of a custom build if you need more around it. See the add-ons list on the Services page for pricing.

Is my data, and my customers' data, handled properly?

Yes — Brunel Web is registered with the ICO, and any data your site collects is handled under UK GDPR. Full detail, including the registration number, is on the privacy policy.
